Silvan Safari is perfectly tucked away along the banks of the Manyeleti River, hidden among a rich variety of indigenous trees, including tamboti, leadwood, and the towering jackalberry. This serene setting offers guests the ultimate privacy and a chance to disconnect from the everyday and reconnect with nature.

With its panoramic views over the river and the surrounding open areas, this is not only a haven for guests but also a regular crossing point for a diverse array of wildlife, drawn by the abundance of greenery and water.

Wildlife Encounters at the Lodge

Our most frequent and iconic wildlife visitors to the lodge are elephants. Herds are often seen grazing near the lodge and drinking from the main pool. On occasion, they approach the suites themselves, offering special close-up moments – sometimes they even enjoy a sneaky sip from our guests’ private plunge pools.

Impala, kudu, nyala, zebra, and giraffe frequently move through the lodge’s open areas. Zebras often stay close to giraffes, benefiting from their superior vantage point to spot predators. These herds attract various predators, adding another layer of drama to the spectacle.

Predators Around Camp

Our most famous feline resident is Tiyani, a leopardess who has made the area her home since before the lodge was built. Known for her calm demeanour, she has raised cubs beneath the lodge’s main deck and regularly makes kills close by. Her presence is a constant reminder of the wild beauty that defines Silvan.

The abundance of prey around the lodge inevitably draws scavengers and predators. Spotted hyenas are often seen following in Tiyani’s footsteps. African wild dogs have also been observed hunting impala within camp boundaries, a thrilling, if raw, spectacle for guests.

While lions tend to favour more open terrain for hunting, sightings near our lodge are not uncommon. The Nkuhuma pride has been seen making kills close to the lodge, including a dramatic buffalo hunt that concluded just outside the guest area.

Nature at Your Suite

From lounging on your private deck to enjoying a glass of wine at the main lodge, wildlife encounters are as natural as our surroundings. In fact, our guests often find that the best sightings happen without ever leaving the comfort of their suite.
