Welcome to another exciting sightings update. With the arrival of winter, wildlife sightings have been nothing short of remarkable. The changing landscape has provided unique opportunities to observe predator dynamics, rare animals, and abundant wildlife activity at our waterholes.

The clash between various lion coalitions continues, disrupting the cohesion of the Nkuhuma pride. Once commonly seen together, the pride now appears fragmented into smaller groups. One of the Nkuhuma lionesses recently had two cubs, but these cubs haven't been spotted in some time and are presumed lost.
This month, we've observed two Ndzenga males mating with Nkuhuma females. Four Kambula males continue to roam our area, facing fierce competition from rival males. The Kruger male was also seen chasing the young Monwana males out of our traverse.
Despite these challenges, the Torchwood pride remains robust, having successfully hunted and fed on a wildebeest a few weeks ago. The Nkuhuma females, though experiencing tough times due to the ongoing male conflicts, continue to excel at hunting, evidenced by several buffalo kills.

Tiyani's cubs are thriving, growing stronger by the day. She occupies a territory north of Silvan Safari and has made several successful kills this month, ensuring her cubs remain healthy and well-fed.
Unfortunately, both Makomsava and Xidulu have lost their cubs. Xidulu has since been seen mating with TP in preparation for her next litter, while Makomsava is keeping a low profile, concentrating on hunting and rebuilding her strength.
Kuchava and Tlalamba’s cubs have grown significantly, reaching a size that allows them to evade threats from hyenas and lions without their mothers' assistance, marking their transition into independence.

Wild dog sightings remain a special highlight due to their rarity. Several packs have recently moved through our area, notably engaging in a dramatic confrontation with hyenas over an impala kill near Silvan Safari.
Similar to the buffalo, numerous elephant herds are frequenting the nearby waterholes. We've even been privileged to witness impressive "big tuskers" drawn to our area by the reliable water sources.

With the drying up of smaller natural pans, large buffalo herds from Kruger National Park are frequently visiting our area's dams to feed and drink. During the rainy season, buffalo sightings were limited since water was abundant everywhere, but this change has significantly improved buffalo sightings.
Consequently, lion sightings have also increased as lions trail these herds, targeting weaker buffalo lagging behind.
We came across a crash of rhinos just before sunset: a cow with her young calf and two non‑territorial bulls. The calf’s curiosity toward the bulls was both endearing and surprising, and the cow remained remarkably relaxed as the bulls approached and gently interacted with her offspring.
We kept our distance, savouring the moment as the sky blazed fire‑orange behind them.

Winter has officially arrived, causing trees to shed their leaves and significantly improving visibility in the bush. This seasonal change allows sightings of smaller, rarer animals that typically remain hidden during the lush, dense greenery of the rainy season.
We've already recorded several exciting sightings, including pangolins, spotted genets, white-tailed mongoose, African civets, and honey badgers. Though these animals are notoriously shy and challenging to photograph due to their elusive nature, each sighting remains thrilling.
The richness and diversity of our wildlife never cease to amaze and inspire. Each season brings unique encounters.
